This is the town most Vermonters hope you don’t find out about. Nestled deep in the Cold Hollow Mountains, Montgomery features acres of pristine snowshoeing terrain and affordable property, claims the title of Vermont’s covered bridge capital (there are six within the town limits), and is a short seven-mile (11-kilometer) drive from Jay Peak, the ski resort with the most snow (351 inches/892 centimeters annually) in eastern North America. If you start jonesing for city life, the bright lights and fresh Molson of Montreal are only two hours northwest.
